Business Expansion set to Finish Within the Next 2 Years on I-69

Amada Baldovinos October 11, 2022

EDINBURG- The City of Edinburg approved numerous amount of contracts to expand businesses in the North Industrial Park Subdivision on interstate I-69.

This expansion is expected to create over 585 jobs and bring in more resources like gas stations and commercial spaces to populated communities.

The city invested over 26 million dollars and sold 36 acres of land to bring in more business and expects to have an estimated economic impact of 152 million dollars.

“All those employees are going to need places to eat, places to put gas, places to buy snacks. So, an area that doesn’t have a lot of those things, eventually develop those needs, not only that some of these employees some will need to rent, some will move to Edinburg because of the expansion there” said Daniel Diaz, councilmember place 1 for the city of Edinburg.

Nicho Produce, one of the companies that signed with the city of Edinburg has been distributing in the South Texas area for 53 years.

“Since we’ve been here for 53 years we wanted to continue to be here, I know there are a lot of produce places down in the Pharr area, but it’s very congested. It’s difficult to get to the expressway when traffic is busy, and I think that sets us apart. There are fewer wholesale distributors in this area” said Tommy Villareal, CEO of Nicho Produce.

The City of Edinburg has grown significantly throughout the years and is now the 5th fastest-growing city in Texas surpassing 100 thousand residents.

You can also expect to see the new developments completed within the next two years.
