RIO GRANDE VALLEY- A UTRGV student organization will host a prayer vigil service at 6 p.m. Friday at the Edinburg campus Chapel Lawn in honor of Charlie Kirk, who was killed Wednesday at Utah Valley University.

Charlie Kirk was a conservative activist and Turning Point USA’s co-founder and CEO. Kirk was visiting UVU for the first stop of the organization’s American Comeback Tour when he was shot in the middle of a live debate.

The Turning Point USA UTRGV chapter will host the vigil. President Alexis Uscanga said he feels angry about the shooting.

“There’s a lot of people that don’t understand that civil discussion should be civil,” Uscanga said. “Even if you have disagreements with someone you don’t believe in, you should have healthy debate, and it shouldn’t take for someone to take an act of violence like that to another person.”

Uscanga said TPUSA reached out to the UTRGV chapter and sent the following statement:

“It is with a heavy heart that we confirm that Charles James Kirk has been murdered by a gunshot that took place during Turning Point USA’s “The American Comeback Tour” campus event at Utah Valley University earlier today.

May Charlie be received into the merciful arms of our loving Savior, who suffered and died for him.
We ask that everyone keep Charlie’s family and loved ones in their prayers.

Sincerely,

The TPUSA Family”

A similar statement was posted to TPUSA’s social media.
