Fennel finalist for Joe B. Hall Award
EDINBURG – The UTRGV Men’s Basketball team wrapped up its season with a 16-15 overall record and an 8-12 mark in conference play.
With only one second remaining on the clock, the Vaqueros clinched the win after Southeastern Louisiana missed its final shot.
Howie Fleming Jr., a redshirt junior guard, made the game-winning shot and scored the final four points in the Vaqueros’ comeback victory. He finished the game with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Kahill Fennell, UTRGV Men’s Basketball head coach, reflected on the emotions of winning the final game of the season, despite the team not making it to the conference finals.
“Just so proud of the group even when its ugly and their adversity, this group has just done everything we ask them to do,” Fennel said.
With 16 victories in his first season, Fennell made program history. UTRGV announced that Fennell was named a finalist for the 2024-2025 Joe B. Hall Award, which is presented annually to the top first-year head coach in Division I college basketball.
