Mission- About seven months ago, Jose Alfredo Cavazos received a letter from the government asking him to sign off to having a portion of his of 77 acres of land in mission surveyed for an “environmental” assessment.
This map shows his land. The blue area is the portion the government is requesting to survey. The red figure is the portion where the wall, which was recently announced to begin undergoing construction next February, would be built.
Cavazos opposes the wall and worries that its construction bar access to his land, which he receives his income from by renting plots and raising livestock
On September 25, U.S. Customs and Border Protection followed up with another letter, which reads in part.
This letter was followed up with another on October 3 from a U.S. attorney, welcoming the opportunity to meet up and address concerns for what effects the survey might have on the property.
But Cavazos is adamant about not signing.
