San Juan- It was a small group that went out Friday afternoon making sure that voters who had promised to vote…voted.
“We have midterm elections coming up, and it’s important to remind people how important we are as individuals – each and every one of us,” said Cristela Alonzo.
La Union Del Pueblo Entero, otherwise known as the organization L.U.P.E, held a voting caravan on Friday in San Juan.
LUPE invited two guests to help be apart of the action – Cristela Alonzo and Dolores Huerta — an American labor leader and civil rights activist who stood alongside Cesar Chavez. Unfortunately, Huerta couldn’t attend the event, but Alonzo did, and she delivered.
“This is my stomping ground. This is my neighborhood! If you want to make true change, you gotta go back home and change it from there,” said Alonzo.
Alonzo is a comedian, actress, writer and even produced her own show on ABC’s “Cristela.”
She says that supporting LUPE is important because it reminds individuals their value and worth. With the midterm elections, she says she has a duty to her hometown of San Juan.
