McAllen – The passing of Senate Bill 11 in 2019 has been providing training to school personnel for possible crisis situations.
Melissa Mendoza, Prevention Intervention Specialist and Licensed Professional Counselor for McAllen Independent School Districts Family Treatment Program, mentions she is grateful to be working with McAllen ISD Police Department.
“We’ve been working with them in creating threat assessments and mental health trainings.” said Mendoza.
Joey Silva, Chief of Police for McAllen ISD, added that his team goes through year-round training and works with the Family Treatment Program to identify individuals who they suspect may need help.
