Edinburg- The Student Government Association (SGA) held the annual State of the Student Body Address. Every year, the organization has new projects and goals, from recruiting new senators to impacting the UTRGV community. An SGA panel announced past achievements including the inclusion of a gender-neutral bathroom.
Currently the association is dealing with a Dream Resource Center that was brought up by students. The Address allowed students, faculty and staff to learn about different concerns happening throughout the University, this includes parking fees, student financial aid, etc.
According to SGA Brownsville vice president, Ingrid De La Torre, SGA works as a bridge between students and faculty. De La Torre thinks that it is important for students to bring their concerns to SGA so that a change may be made.
SGA not only allows students to have a voice on campus but allows them to enhance their academic experience though its resources. One of SGA’S resources includes funds, the Student Travel Fund and the Social Events fund. Both funds allow student organizations to become more involved around campus, hold conferences and competitions.
