On Jan. 27 at 10:29 a.m., a female contractor employee reported that a female student had been suspected of stealing food from the C-Store at the Edinburg Student Union on prior occasions. The officer was able to identify the female student who did admit to taking food items in the past because she was hungry and did not have money. She also admitted to visiting and utilizing the UTRGV food pantry. This report will be referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities for further review.
On Jan. 29 at 11:30 a.m., a male student reported that his home in Edcouch was shot at and the incident is under investigation by the Edcouch Police Department. The student also mentioned he had been receiving threatening messages on his cell phone while off-campus. He wanted to document the incident with UTRGV PD because he is in the process of living in student housing. He was advised of the UTRGV services available and UTRGV PD criminal investigation division is in the process of obtaining more information from the investigative agency.
