EDINBURG – UTRGV Center for Mexican-American Studies hosts an all-day event called “From One Borderland to Another: El Valle Stands with El Paso.” Presentations took place last Wednesday with talks on gun violence, trauma, healing, and resistance.
“Just the times the current times that we are living in, it’s very important I think that it’s wise to host these events to try to raise awareness regarding gun violence and the trauma associated with gun violence,” said Marc Anthony Vasquez, educator and founder for the John Manuel Project.
Vasquez mentions that in most cases the guns are not properly stored and these events are important because one can learn a lot. He also suggests it would be a good idea to include information on how to properly store weapons at home to avoid accidents or mass shootings.
