The UTRGV Men’s Basketball team hosted CSU Bakersfield on Saturday at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
Leading the Vaqueros we have graduate student Jordan Jackson giving the Vaqueros 17 points but also sharing the spotlight we have freshman Quinton Johnson the second scoring 11 points with a career high nine rebounds with three assists and tying three steals.
Starting the first half we have a layup by Javon Levi pushing through the runners to get those first points.
Now we didn’t start the first half with a great start but we definitely came back in the second picking up our defense. Coach Hill said that we are going to win the next game and he definitely was right.
We can see the Vaqueros playing hard with Jackson dribbling the ball then passing it off to Johnson giving it to Sean Rhea and making that first dunk in the game.
CSU Bakersfield still in the lead 17-8 and we have Jackson riding down the lane with the Vaqueros moving the ball around. Javon Levi guarded by number 25 and 10 creating some space moving near the paint. Javon with a pump fake followed by a quick made shot and 1.
We have Jordan Jackson again taking that ball from the runners giving it to freshman Connor Raines for an open layup.
The runners still leading in the first half that when Vaqueros went on a 10-2 run with Anthony Bratton for a quick 2 and coming up we have Johnson with a steal taking it home with a dunk getting the score up 25-22.
Quinton driving down the middle for a quick pass to the corner left for a three, misses but put back by Sean Rhea with a tip in giving Vaqueros 2 points.
We have Varner moving the ball around for a pass and go, pump faking it and side steps with a miss then Quinton Johnson with a follow up.
Now we have Javon Levi splitting down the middle attracting defense for a Vaquero quick pass to left corner, Jordan Jackson with a clutch three shot to seal the game leading the Vaqueros to a 70-59 win over CSU Bakersfield.
