EDINBURG – UTRGV is preparing for return of in-person learning this fall semester.
While professors are teaching traditional face-to-face courses, they now have the option to change the course modality. The university cannot mandate facial coverings and social distancing, but it is encouraged to wear masks and keep 6 feet apart. Staying COVID-free on campus comes down to personal responsibility.
Associate Vice President for UTRGV Marketing and Communications, Patrick Gonzales said the Rio Grande Valley has the highest vaccination rates in Texas. The UTRGV vaccine portal shows that 83-percent of students and 89-percent of faculty and staff are vaccinated.
“Both Hidalgo and Cameron are about seventy percent or a little bit over, vaccination rates,” said Gonzales.
“It’s all about protecting yourself and protecting others, check your email, check social media,” said Gonzales. “Things might change between twenty-four or forty-eight hours, we’re just [going to] have to be ready to change, and to communicate that change.”
