UTRGV Baseball went out into the desert and swept Grand Canyon in a three game series. The winning started in the opening game when Christian Sepulveda doubled in the 1st, driving in two runs.
Now, Grand Canyon came back with a home run in the 4th, but it did not matter because UTRGV scored the go-ahead run in the sixth with an Elijah Alexander double. Trevelle “king of the” Hill and Ryan Jackson completed a great day on the mound as the team allowed just five hits.
In the second game, the two teams endured a shootout. UTRGV put up five runs in the first 5 innings, but Grand Canyon staged a monumental comeback with 5 runs of their own in the 5th inning. The theme of 5’s stayed strong as neither team cracked that mark until extra innings.
It took until the 13th inning for the scoring to break out when the Vaqueros took the lead. With the bases loaded, Coleman Grubbs grounded to short. An errant throw from Grand Canyon caused two UTRGV runs. The final score was 8-5.
