EDINBURG – The Charles and Dorothy Clark Art Gallery displayed a new exhibition, “Beyond the Studio,” by the South Texas College art faculty.
Carlos Limas, chair of the STC Art Department, spoke about the concept of the gallery.
“The gallery itself serves like a place to discuss,” Limas said. “There’s a place for open ground for dialogue between the art and the artist.”
The exhibit highlights multiple artists’ creativity and concepts, portrayed through the use of multimedia and painting.
Luis Corpus, art instructor at South Texas College, explained how he inspires others to create art, like his.
“I tell my students a quote from this artist Chuck Close,” Corpus said. “‘Amateurs wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get to work.’ And so, what I take from that is if you’re stuck in a rut, start something because therein lies your method of inspiration.”
Jesmil Maldonado, gallery director, said she has to prepare exhibits a year in advance and revise exhibit proposals with the help of a gallery advisory committee.
“We do want to keep increasing our presence and like to encourage not just like our students, but also the community to come by our spaces,” Maldonado said.
The “Beyond the Studio” exhibition will be available to the public until Sept. 25 in The Charles and Dorothy Clark Art Gallery at the Edinburg Liberal Arts Building South and is free of charge.
