BROWNSVILLE – Governor Greg Abbott passed House Bill 3979 which affects the United States history curriculum in grade levels K-12.
On Monday, August 9th, 2021, Senator Bryan Hughes modified and filed Senate Bill 3 which states that, “Teachers may not be compelled to discuss a particular current event or widely debated and currently controversial issue of public policy or social affairs.”
Alex Dominguez, State Representative of District 37 said, “they’re trying to stop this in our Texas schools because they don’t want students in high school to know that the America that we know… its history is not perfect. And I think that’s a shame because we should not try to whitewash American history or Texas history.”
The engrossed bill passed the Senate, but it is still pending a decision from the House Committee.
