EDINBURG – The Edinburg Police Department is opening its doors to Edinburg citizens who are seeking information about police practice.
According to Lieutenant Reynaldo Sepulveda, the purpose of the academy is to educate people on the daily tasks of police officers.
“We are going to have different courses to help people get a better understanding of when officers are deployed onto the street, when they conduct a traffic stop, certain laws that we use, we’ll also teach firearms training, things like that,” said Sepulveda.
Patrol officer Efrain Muniz sees this as an opportunity for the local community to connect with the police.
“We are hoping it bridges that gap that we have… the only contact we have with each other is at a traffic stop… this is going to give the citizens the opportunity to meet us, hangout with us… we can bridge that gap, bring us together, and make a stronger community,” said Muniz.
There are some requirements needed to attend these courses such as being over 21 years of age, being an Edinburg citizen or working in Edinburg, having good mental/physical health, a background check, and more.
Sepulveda encourages those who are interested in the daily operations of a police officer to sign up for the event.
