Difficult Students on Campus

Jose Guerrero October 8, 2019

BROWNSVILLE – At UTRGV, students’ study for their classes anywhere and anytime they have a chance. Even with safe studying areas at the university some students still have trouble focusing due to disruptive students playing loud music, games and much more. Chief of Police Raul Munguia says that they will remove students that are being too rowdy and will report them to the Dean of Students.

“They can take some additional steps to make sure that this gets addressed. Typically we won’t go with the Dean of Students, if we get the cooperation right there, because sometimes they get just get carried away. It’s when we start getting pushback from them, so ok we need to the additional step forward to make sure that this doesn’t continue to happen,” said Munguia.

Electrical engineering student Miguel Gonzalez says he has experienced a violation of the student code of conduct in class.

“I have experienced some kids during class that have disturbed, like during the lectures and stuff like that. Students don’t take the professors or the TA’s seriously. You shouldn’t do, I mean it’s disrespectful to others,” said Gonzalez.

MYSTERY CHARACTER

Munguia says students can anonymously report someone through Maxient. All you need to do is type “Vaqueros Report It” on the search bar of the UTRGV website, which will lead to several forms like one for Student Violations. We learned you can also submit a report through the CampusShield app which is available on the App Store and Google Play.

“Those reports get forwarded over like say to the professor, or to the PD or whoever it is that needs to address it,” he continues.

Munguia would like to emphasize the importance of respecting one another in order to maintain a safe and friendly learning environment.
