Town Hall Against the Border Wall

Ileana Moreno November 13, 2018

McAllen- The Rio Grande Valley community gathered directly in front of the McAllen Border Patrol headquarters to voice their concerns over the border wall. The town hall was planned after no official town halls were prepared in the RGV about the topic.

Rio Grande Valley resident Marcelo Ramirez says it’s important to be educated about topics like the border wall that directly affect our local community.

“This whole – having this isolated nation that is locked in by a wall is absurd and stupid” said Ramirez.

Hidalgo and Cameron County residents were joined by immigrants, veterans, and environmental experts taking the stand to voice their own stories one by one.

“The one thing is to not lose hope. There’s so much that we feel like it’s out of our hands and it really is in our hands. That’s what I think that we need to wake up and realize is that it’s in our hands. We can say ‘wait a second guys you in Washington, you’re not serving our purposes. Here’s what we want you to do’, and we need to start telling them what we want them to do” said Paul Sanchez-Navarro.

Paul Sanchez-Navarro says there are more ways to get involved, including contacting your local congressman.

Local organizations are planning a “No Border Wall Community Camp Out” December 8th through the 9th to show Valley residents what’s at stake if the border wall is built.
