A new cafe-library hybrid opens in Edinburg

Ian Juarez September 30, 2025

EDINBURG – The Caffeine Library is a family founded and owned business that combines coffee beans and good “reads” for residents to enjoy, starting today.

Its co-owners are brothers, Carlos and Jaime Montelongo, and their mother Melissa Montelongo.

“Well, this journey is mainly coming from [Jaime Montelongo], and I just believed in him. We put our two minds together and this is what we’re trying to make up,” Carlos Montelongo said.

Jaime Montelongo said he wanted the Caffeine Library to be, “a safe space comfortable for people to enjoy coffee, matcha and talk about books, and other things they enjoy.”

The Caffeine Library has been in the works since August of 2024; Jaime and Carlos have posted updates and reels on their progress since July of this year.

The cafe has a large variety of book genres for customers to choose from, including romance, sci-fi, adventure, as well as a young adult and nonfiction section.

The cafe’s coffee selection is just as large.

“We have some that are coffee based, matcha based, we also have some pastries from local bakers. We have some really good cookies, and a really great pistachio croissant that tastes really good,” Jaime Montelongo said.

Jaime Montelongo said that one thing that separates them from other cafes is community engagement.

“We want to kind of get a bunch of readers in here. Maybe create book clubs for people who enjoy reading and talking about it in groups. So, I feel like that aspect is something that sets us apart,” Jaime Montelongo said.

Melissa Montelongo shared a similar sentiment.

“Going out there and, being a part of the community going out to different events.” … “We’re also going to be having events here where we’re going to be inviting the community to come and join us so, stay tuned,” Melissa Montelongo said.

The Caffeine Library can be found at 1518 West University Drive, Edinburg.
