RIO GRANDE VALLEY – Next semester, UTRGV will see the creation of the new School of Political Science, Public Affairs, Legal and Security Studies, which will unite its titular programs to better serve the students.
The announcement was made last Wednesday in an email from Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Luis Zayas.
At the head of the school is political science associate professor and founding director, Dongkyu Kim.
Kim said after the programs come together, the new school should be able to offer more classes for each program.
He explained, students seeking to pursue law school can expect the legal studies program to grow alongside its school.
“They will have a more strengthened curriculum on legal studies,” Kim said. “So, you will open up more classes and more experiences for our students. “
The Public Affairs program will also grow to help students looking to join the political world.
Kim explained that specific details on how the school will operate and change degree programs, are still in the works.
The school will officially open in August of this year.
