EDINBURG— UTRGV hosted a Study Abroad Fair offering an opportunity for students to explore educational programs across the globe, last Wednesday at the Dining and Ballroom complex on the Edinburg campus.
Caroline Miles, director of Education Abroad, said Study Abroad offers short-term programs that are faculty-led over the winter break or during the summer semesters, with 30 different programs included.
The long-term programs are designed for students to study abroad for one semester or a full academic year with scholarship opportunities, if eligible.
Miles said studying abroad plays a vital role in a student’s academic and personal development.
“One of main goals of my office is to increase the number of UTRGV students that do go abroad, not necessarily just for Study Abroad, it can be for internships, volunteering opportunities conferences,” she said.
The study abroad programs include but is not limited to countries such as South Korea, Brazil, Austria, Spain and France.
Anna Erwin, assistant professor for the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, said the Human-Environmental Interaction in the Galapagos Island program immerses students in different social factors.
“So, what we wanted to do was introduce to different social factors as well as geological factors that are important to the environment in one of the most unique places on Earth, which is the Galapagos Islands,” Erwin said.
