Edinburg – The University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) announced Thursday that the former stadium, H-E-B Park, will be renamed to Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium following a $20 million donation by them.
According to UTRGV Athletics, the naming of the stadium will be in recognition of the Vackars’ unwavering support for the football program and their long standing generosity for UTRGV.
Guy Bailey announced the donation at the newly renamed Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium along with giving thanks to the Vackars’ generosity to Athletics and the UTRGV community.
“On behalf of the entire UTRGV community we’d want to extend our heartfelt gratitude, our deepest gratitude and thanks for Robert and Janet Vackar” he said “their unwavering dedication for the university and the students. This is really an enduring legacy.” said Bailey.
Robert C. Vackar and his wife Janet Vackar are owners of the Bert Ogden Auto Group and have a history of philanthropy in the Rio Grande Valley. In 2016 Robert Vackar donated a $15 million endowment to the university, renaming the College of Business to Robert C. Vackar College of Business & Entrepreneurship in his honor.
The Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium will be used for the Vaqueros Football program and will also have a variety of other UTRGV events.
