UTRGV students can now expect less congested walkways for the Spring 2024 semester as the Quad Drainage Project that the UTRGV Planning and Construction Department started in 2020 in Edinburg was completed over the winter break.
The new quad comes with an underground drainage system, new sidewalks updated landscaping, and two new barbecue pavilions adjacent to a stage for future events.
University Architect, Juan Ortiz said that the new quad hopes to bring shade and interesting outdoor space to UTRGV.
“And the idea was to create these little pockets of interesting space, outdoor space that our student population and our faculty and our staff, you know, the whole community could enjoy,” Ortiz said. “And eventually, when all the trees grow up, enjoy some shade.”
The now complete drainage project hopes to alleviate flooding from storms that had previously left the quad flooded.
