The UTRGV Involvement Fair Offers over 40 Organizations to Join

Felix Balderas February 15, 2023

EDINBURG- February 8, 2023, marked a UTRGV tradition of Student Involvement Fairs. 44 organizations, groups, clubs, and departments conceded in the UTRGV Ballroom for the Fair.

Students had access to information about campus resources and various clubs and organizations including sororities, fraternities, Dining Services, Academic Advising, UT Health services, and more.

Program Coordinator for the Center for Student Involvement Ashley Guzman mentioned that the Student Involvement Fair is a great way for students to connect and learn about UTRGV resources and departments.

“I think the thing about joining an organization is that it’s about bonding with your peers. So, whether you do an academic organization that is focused on your major, or whether you do a social that is focused on dancing or horror or fashion, it’s about getting the opportunity to be around people who have the same interests and talk about the same things that you like and just get to know your fellow Vaqueros,” said Ashley Guzman.

Among the many people in attendance was a mechanical engineering major and Kappa Sigma fraternity member Damien Garcia who expressed his enthusiasm for his fraternity.

“Kappa sigma fraternity, number one on campus, the greatest one on campus, biggest on campus, that’s what we’re here for,” said Garcia. “We have several opportunities, we do community service, we do fundraisers, and we also have a lot of fun together. We go to UTRGV Athletics games, and we also get involved in the community, like here right now at the involvement fair, we are getting to know some new members and future prospects for our fraternity.”

Integrated Health science major Grace Garcia spoke to KVAQ-TV to offer her perspective on the many options that the Involvement Fair held.

“It’s my first time coming here, and I think it’s a really good opportunity for new students and returning students to meet new organizations and try to get involved,” said Garcia.

With all the excitement at the Student Involvement Fair, Damien Garcia had one last comment to offer about the overall benefits that the event provides to students.

“You’re going to meet several student organizations that benefit you, benefit your resume just like my fraternity, and also, you’re going to get to know people, especially if you are a freshman or you’re new to the university, you are going to meet several people with the same interests as you and hope you find an organization you’re going to be with for a while,” said Garcia.

The next Student Involvement Fair is expected to be held in the 2023 Fall semester.

Students can stay updated with more events using UTRGV’s event calendar.
