EDINBURG- Long hours, late nights, and incredible dedication are some of the things Senior Associate’s Athletic Director for Communications and Championships, Jonah Goldberg brings to UTRGV.
Growing up in New York, Golberg’s interest in sports began when he played baseball with his dad on the driveway of his home. Goldberg recalls listening to the Yankees play in the world series in 2000, and being so fascinated by the game, he says he never missed one.
During his high school career, Goldberg says he broadcasted his very first baseball game and took things to the next level by creating his own website with several broadcasts and articles of the games.
Golberg went on to Boston University where he broadcast 248 games setting a record at WTBU Radio. One of Jonah’s major accomplishments was a day he will never forget when the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings in Harlingen decided to hire him.
From there Goldberg went on to take on bigger roles as he focused on growing in the industry and separating himself from everyone.
Chasse Conque, director of athletics, reinforces Jonah has been an incredible workforce in athletics.
“He inspires us every single day because he is one of the hardest workers that I have ever met, and nothing is too big or small for Jonah to tackle. But he is passionate about our student-athletes, and he wants to make sure that he is helping tell their story and doing right by them and when they leave here, they had a great experience here at UTRGV,” said Conque.
Goldberg started working for UTRGV in 2011 and has been a great asset to UTRGV Athletics including securing the hosting of the 2022 WAC volleyball tournament on November 17 through 19.
