McAllen- The City of McAllen shares Night-time safety measures after a deadly shooting outside of a downtown McAllen bar.
The city reported its lowest crime rate in 37 years at the end of 2021, where crime decreased by 22.2 percent. Despite the decrease, the city is still working to keep residents safe in multiple ways.
This comes after a shooting in early October outside of the bar “No Manches Wuey”, following an altercation on 1600 Beaumont Street at about two a.m. Since then, Police arrested eight suspects for their involvement in the death of a 22-year-old.
The McAllen Police Department stated that it’s mandatory for individuals to report any incident or crime seen or may be arrested for withholding important information from the authorities.
“All information has value to our community. See something, say something, it may be the information that law enforcement agencies are missing. If you want to remain anonymous call crime stoppers,” said Lt. Joel Morales in an email statement.
McAllen Pd recommends people always be aware of their locations and surroundings when going out at night, some of the tips provided are, to be cognizant of your location, park in well-lit areas lock your vehicle, and do not leave valuables in clear view.
McAllen Resident, Valeria Doria shared what she does to feel safe when going out at night.
“If you go in a bigger group, it’s much safer”, and “I share my location with my mom, and she watches it all night,” said Doria.
