MISSION- The Texas Citrus Fiesta hosted its 90th celebration, after postponing for a year due to the rise of covid-19 cases. The event first started in mission in 1932 to spread the word about the harvest of grapefruit and oranges in the Rio Grande Valley.
Lisa Rivera, Executive Director for Texas Citrus Fiesta, said despite some setbacks in the past caused by Covid, this year had a new challenge.
“Our annual carnival got affected this year, not so much by covid but because of the property we had set up, because of the weather that we usually have in January, the grounds got extremely saturated, where it got to the point where it wasn’t safe to have our carnival,” said Rivera.
Rivera adds that they hope to see more people attend and participate the following year.
