UTRGV Volleyball and Men’s Soccer are in Action

Rolando Avila October 22, 2021

EDINBURG – Both the Volleyball and Men’s Soccer teams competed on Saturday October 16.

UTRGV Volleyball went head-to-head with the Sam Houston Bearkats in the UTRGV Fieldhouse.

The Bearkats  have not dropped a single set in the past three games they played, so the Vaqueros had their work cut out for them in this one.

It was a hard-fought game with both teams trading sets the whole way.

Final Score: 3-2

 1 2 3 4 5 F
UTRGV 25 21 25 27 15 (3)
Sam Houston 16 25 21 29 12 (2)

UTRGV Volleyball competes again at the Western Athletic Conference Cluster in Beaumont, TX on October 22.

UTRGV Men’s Soccer looked to recover from two losses on the road as they came back home to compete against the Houston Baptist University Huskies.

The Vaqueros dominated the ball throughout the game, outshooting the Huskies 17-3.

One of those shots found the back of the net in the 61st minute when Javier Chavez dove and headed the ball off a corner kick for the game winning goal. Not only was this the game winning goal, but also Chavez’s first career goal.

The final score for the game was 1-0 with the Vaqueros taking it home.

Men’s Soccer will play at home again on October 22nd when they face San Jose State University.
