EDINBURG – UTRGV athletes and coaches alike, are being proactive in preventing heat illnesses on the field.
Steven Kraus, Head Athletic Trainer, said he tries to be vigilant when it comes to spotting heat illnesses. “As we know whether it’s 7 at night or noon, conditions can still bring heat illness,” shared Kraus.
He said he follows the “Physician Statement” from the National Trainers Association as a guide to recognize and manage heat illnesses.
Anna Barkey, Captain of the UTRGV Women’s Soccer Team, said communicating with the athletic trainers is important.
“As athletes, we are trained to pay attention to any abnormalities whether it’s in our muscles or something due to the heat,” Barkey said.
