Women’s and Men’s Basketball Take on the New Mexico State Aggies

Victoria Cantu February 25, 2020

The UTRGV men’s basketball team had its six-game winning streak come to an end this past Saturday against the New Mexico State Aggies.

We have senior Lesley Varner II leading the vaqueros with 23 points, two steals and six rebounds. We also have Junior Javon Levi coming in to place his fourth double-double for the season giving vaqueros 13 points. Also shedding some light on Quinton Johnson, the II with nine points shooting three three-pointers.

The team is now tied for the number two seed in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament. They are 7-6 and are tied with Grand Canyon and Seattle University. The final score was 78-62.

If you Vaquero fans want to tune in on the action, the UTRGV men’s basketball team will be going face to face against CSU Bakersfield once again on Thursday, February 27th on ESPN3.

The Women’s Basketball team had its fair share rematch against New Mexico State this past Saturday. Compared to last year’s Western Athletic Championship, you can see the team has improved on their defense and came out on top of this game.

We have Junior Trelynn Tyler leading the Vaqueros with 19 points with five three-pointers, four rebounds, two assists, and three steals. We also have graduate student Desirea Buerge scoring 15 points with five rebounds and two steals. Junior Amara Graham giving vaqueros 14 points with four assists and two blocks. Halie Jones also gave UTRGV nine points with six rebounds.

The women’s basketball team rounded up the final score 74-63.
