Here’s this week’s police reports released to us by UTRGV PD this past week:
On Monday, November 4 at 7:14 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the UTRGV Health Affairs West building in reference to threats that were made to several UTRGV students on Saturday, November 2, 2019 by a current male student. A faculty member and four students reported the incidents occurred on said date at a fundraiser held in University parking lot E-32. Investigation revealed an assault by contact where a female student reported she felt the touch to be offensive/provocative had occurred. A terroristic threat had also been made by the student towards his classmates. The student was placed under arrest by UTRGV Detectives and transported to the Edinburg City jail. Incident was referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities for further review.
That same day detectives, during the investigation of the previous case determined a second terroristic threat had occurred after the fundraiser event had concluded. A male student reported he had received a threatening voice message from the same student suspect. The student was charged with a second terroristic threat. Incident was referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities for further review.
On November 6 at 2:21 p.m. a male student reported forgetting his backpack which contained a firearm inside a restroom at the Student Academic Center. Upon reviewing the building cameras, officers observed a male walking with the backpack into a classroom on the first floor of the building. Officers made contact with the male who had placed the backpack on the podium in class, waiting to see if anyone would claim it, assuming it belonged to a classmate. Prior to releasing the property back to the owner, Officers ran a check on the firearms serial number which came back clear. A report was generated for documentation purposes.
