Since the NCAA began governing college sports in 1910, they have allowed student-athletes to earn zero dollars for their work on the college field.
However, a recent press release hints that a change could be on the way.
In the release, the NCAA announced its board voted unanimously to permit students participating in athletics the opportunity to benefit from the use of their name, image, and likeness in a manner consistent with the collegiate model.
The NCAA hopes to have new rules established on the subject by 2021. We’ll have a further study on the topic later this week.
