EDINBURG – ‘She Stoops to Conquer’: A comedy written in the 18th century is premiering this month at the Jeffers Theatre.
“It is about, mistaken identities, and tricks, people humiliating themselves and people hiding and pretending they’re this. And lying to this person about that, it’s a lot of combinations of foolishness, and heartbreak and laughter, and since it’s a comedy a happily ever after of course,” said Director Kent Smither.
Students in the theater program build and create their own set and clothing for every play. Smither tells us the students have a more hands-on experience at UTRGV compared to other universities.
“Students do design sometimes props or costumes or sets, providing opportunities for the students to grow and experience different types of theater as they work,” he continued.
Sophomore John Medrano, hopes to leave a memorable impression with the audience as this is his first acting gig at UTRGV.
“I want them to have a memorable moment for them to take away from us, to make sure we give them those key moments within these characters. They can just walk out and say ‘wow I really enjoyed these characters’ I wanted them to walk away and be stunned and to be entertained in every way,” said Medrano.
Opening night is set for November 22 and will be running until November 24. Tickets will be 5 dollars for students and faculty with a valid ID. Visit utrgv.edu/theatre for more information.
