Edinburg- It’s no surprise that the Rio Grande Valley has an overpopulation of stray cats and dogs, which is why the Palm Valley Animal Center and Laurie P. Andrews Paws shelter partnered with Petco for adoption weekend.
“So yes there is an overpopulation because the animals don’t stop coming into the Palm Valley Animal Center,” said Adoption Specialist Monica Huerta. “They get so many animals a day, especially right now we have the kitten season coming around so we’re getting a lot of litters.”
For these strays, a certain amount of weeks at the shelter means time is up.
“So two weeks is already a long time, technically so the reason why we have that list is because those animals are discounted. Their fees are waived basically. They only have to pay a rebate fee for them to get spayed or neutered which, once they do get spayed or neutered, they get that reimbursement back and it’s 50 dollars for them,” said Huerta.
The majority of these future pets have all their vaccines up to date and are already either spayed or neutered with very unique personalities.
