Edinburg- On March 15, two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand were attacked.
50 people were shot to death, including women and children.
The RGV Muslim Students’ Association organized a vigil to commemorate the victims and families affected by the attack.
“The victims, we consider them to be our brothers and sisters even though we’ve never met them. We are connected by faith. And so we hosted it in part to stand in solidarity with them and also for us to come together as a community,” said Fariha Ahmad, the RGV MSA Secretary.
Through prayer and speakers attendees were able to honor the victims and learn about the Muslim community in the RGV.
A week after the attack, New Zealand’s Prime Minister announced that assault rifles would be banned in the country in mid-April.
