EDINBURG – UTRGV tennis returns with a smash as athletics shared tennis’ Fall 2026 schedule last month.
Both vaquero teams played the Islander Open in Corpus Christi, the first tournament of the season, this weekend.
While the Vaqueros fought hard, both teams ultimately fell, and did not top their brackets.
Nathan Robinson, head men’s coach, said the competition served to see where the team stands after a summer of training.
“The biggest thing we’re looking for is guys showing up competing hard and implementing their game plans,” Robinson said. “That’s what we need to see so that next week, we get to come back and see what worked well and see what we got to work on.”
Within the state, women’s tennis is visiting Waco, Houston and San Marcos for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Texas Regional, Rice Invitational and the Bobcat Invitational respectively.
For the men’s, besides the Rice Invitational, in-state destinations include the ITA Texas Regional at Fort Worth and the International Tennis Federation M25 Harlingen.
Catch the women’s playing in Houston this upcoming Sept. 25-27, while men’s will have a longer break as their next tournament takes place Oct. 8-12.
