Sports Highlights: 3-26-19

On this week’s sports highlights, women’s basketball faced University of North Texas, Wednesday March 20th in Denton Dallas. Girls Megan Johnson and Madison Northcutt scored 27 points total and took a 5-2 lead after a three-pointer by Johnson in the first quarter.

Next, junior Makaela Mosley made a jumper that gave UTRGV the 7-6 lead but was later closed out by UNT taking the 20-10 lead. UNT also moving forward with a layup by Charlene Shepherd in the second quarter and answering back with a three-pointer is UTRGV’s Megan Johnson.

The score now 31-24 with UNT in the lead at halftime. UTRGV’s Idil Turk pushed the score to 26 with a jumper but UNT pushed their score lead to now 40 with five minutes left in the quarter. Our girls score again with an 8-0 run and a three-pointer that got them to 40-34 but it was UNT making the final five points, 55-40.

Next up, women’s tennis recovers with a win against Seattle-U this past Sunday after losing to New Mexico State on Saturday with a 3-4 match.

The girls heated up the court with doubles by seniors Marine Darzyan and Dominique Ibarra with a 6-0 win on court one and seniors Michelle Walker and Doris Aleksovska also won a 6-0 match against Seattle-U.

Freshmen’s Sandra Putz and Katrina Sasaroga closed out their match in doubles with a 6-2 win.
