EDINBURG – UTRGV celebrated the annual Picnic with the President event in Edinburg last Tuesday, where students came to rep their nationalities and vaquero spirit.
The event opened with the university marching band led by a line of flag-wielders, each representing their nation of origin, as they made their way from the Performing Arts Center to the Ballroom.
Guy Bailey, president of UTRGV, greeted the university’s community of international students and, with a team of faculty and staff, gave out hamburgers and snacks to all in attendance.
Bailey said events such as the Picnic provide the UTRGV community with a fulfilling social experience.
“Participate. Get a free hamburger. Go to a ball game. Whatever your interest is,” Bailey said. “You help make the campus better by doing that, and you will benefit from the campus life as well. It’s a two-way street. Enjoy yourself.”
UTRGV Student Activities will be hosting more events throughout the semester, which can be viewed online at calendar.utrgv.edu.
